New AKC Rule

Local trials that conflict with a National or National Amateur may not offer stakes that award championship points. Clubs may offer minor stakes including: Derby, Qualifying and Owner-Handler Qualifying. You can read the full text of the change here.

And you may see all recent rule changes here (plus there's a link to this list from the RR home page).

AKC Club Update: March 2023

The American Kennel Club has been made aware of an existing Missouri Department of Agriculture rule that we believe may be enforced moving forward. We are providing the following verbiage for consideration when publishing documentation for events held in the state of Missouri to offer potential exhibitors the opportunity to obtain the indicated documentation:   Missouri state law requires all dogs participating in dog shows to be free of clinical signs of infectious or contagious disease and must be vaccinated for rabies; dogs traveling from outside of the state are also required to have a certificate of veterinary inspection.

AKC CHF Canine Breeder Seminar

The AKC is offering a seminar series starting this week on breeding. This week, Dr. MCrae will review factors affecting artificial insemination and progesterone testing.

You can either purchase one event or the month-long series. You can see more information here.

Feeding a Puppy

Eukanuba has a good article on how much to feed a puppy. You can read it here.

New DC-AFC, The King of Cool (McQueen)

They are rare, but they do exist. A Dual AFC Champion means a dog has earned both Open and Amateur Field Championships against all breeds, plus a conformation show champion title. The Chesapeake is the only retriever breed to accomplish this in a long time and McQueen, owned by Linda Harger and Tom ivey, MD, is the first in more than 10 years.

Congratulations!
